Willow Sways 05:41
The water lures me to it’s edge Draws me closer with her depth The stillness deafening Beneath the blue a chasm deep What lies under waits for sleep To take its hold Loveless eyes of blue Weather storms of truth And theres no cold wave retreating Or a second chance to gasp for air Like Ophelia’s embrace The weeping willow sways The daisies float in my right hand A glass like surface mirrored back A ripple trembling a flashback Falling into the abyss Like Ophelia’s embrace The weeping willow sways The daisies float in my right hand Lost in currents dark and slow She strips away all innocence What good am I on this night The temptress waiting to take me whole Will I succumb to all her gloom While flowers beckon in full bloom. Along the riverbanks A phantom down the river black Murmuring ballads of sweet madness Softly to the evening breeze Loveless eyes of blue Weather storms of truth And theres no cold wave retreating Or a second chance to gasp for air To gasp for air To gasp for air To gasp for air

Breathe in a recitation Exhale the fire below Let go the force beneath the surface Blood on stone Dance across the grave in wonder Release life’s thread The fates upon you Snipping at your heels Their scissors glare The madness in your likeness Will varnish in the greying Slumbers of midnight Move toward the flame before you Come forth and bathe in light Release the pressure forming under Skin so ripe The madness in your likeness Will varnish in the greying Slumbers of midnight They fall before you scattered pieces Of what once was Waves of blood that course, beckoning A pressing recollection, a flashing blade Won’t feel hesitation This time around

My love is drifting down a highway An apparition on a thin white line With a heart thats full of empty A vessel once was known as mine The longing calling As clouds are forming On the forlorn horizon Where the old gods touched the sky They left behind a serpent Chasing down the sun This mortal coil has all but washed away On a trail with no end A night without day A melody echoes From beyond Beckoning ….. i’m overcome The roads become a constant The faster I drive the less is real Burning the wheels underneath me For its the only path I feel The longing calling As clouds are forming On the forlorn horizon Where the old gods touched the sky They left behind a serpent Chasing down the sun This mortal coil has all but washed away On a trail with no end A night without day A melody echoes From beyond I’ll sing the melody to guide you home Hoping the sun wont rise The tender sweet embrace The memory that holds me close and breaks my will Oh the Moon has come The stars they call They’re burning bright Lay beside me (We’ll burn like fire) Then I’ll be gone

Feel the rise of the road winding up Stagger forward nothing holding back Glancing down the way, letting go Welcome the heat rising below Succumb to the circling within the air that flows Roll onward toward the space Where the earth and sky’s veil is thin Three steps always leading Back to the start The prop that held life up Snapped apart Feel the rise of road winding up Letting go The moon is wasted high Call it down The misty morning dawning Feel it now Three steps taken leading Back to the warmth In remission on a never ending loop The shadows threaten every inch they crawl The road ahead alluring with it’s bend The distance longing calling aching with the wind The heart’s of lovers left in scorn Creeping, crawling back again Lure me from this place Gaze upon a starless night And hunger for the light

Flashing colors pass through windowpane The rain is falling Softly sings the night Droplets gather flowing into streams Yearning for the rivers wild Rolling down a way so familiar Slowly journey back into the deep We lost our way Oh our struggle has been in vain Where nothing is, but a mask it seems And we the ghostly form beneath Stepping out into the misty air The sounds of laughter ringing in the night The many voices bursting into song Leaving a lone one wanting to belong We lost our way All our struggle has been in vain Where nothing is, but a mask it seems And we the ghostly form beneath Grasping at rays that dim The sky it pours, the wind it howls Come wash away the twisted blue Of darkened hours In pooled reflections came a sign of life A glimpse of being A hope for kindness this time And in the moment bathed in light there was A sign of mercy A neon vision circling It will not fade lightly There is no forgetting The feeling this time round It will not go quietly The melody remains

To wonder what its like to feel To take the chance to know whats real Lift the veil see clarity An effigy of past reality Smoldering in flames it all burns down An agonizing minute slowly lingers on It’s lost The senses stop In cradled slumber under moon The nightingale’s lone lullaby will croon The emptiness of promise gone A dreadful inclination that the war is now All, but lost The senses stop The lights wane beyond the ridge The endless sky grows dim Apprehension settles in Sullen moment fading, grim Yearning for sunlight The darker it goes Then yearning for starlight To wonder what its like to feel To ride the wind to live for steel Parading fearlessly your solemn vow Give up the ghost come take the final bow Smoldering in flame it al burns down The emptiness of promise gone The lights wane beyond the ridge The endless sky grows dim Apprehension settles in Sullen moment fading, grim Fading fast, all is longing Fading fast, all is gone Fading fast, all returns

about

"The lure of the highway is primal. Composed though it may be of modern material traversed by contemporary machinery, the road into the unknown predates the motorway by centuries. What lies beyond its horizon? A carnal encounter? Death? The self-titled debut LP by Veldune exists in the hallucinogenic blur of a heat haze just above a strip of concrete that may lead to either.

Conceived by vocalist Jamie Myers (Hammers of Misfortune) and guitarist Kevin Hufnagel (Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, Vaura), the music evokes dusk wind, beach bonfire rituals, roadside motels, and a sense of ecstatic flight. Whether a spirit out of body or a speeding car, it is the sound of beautiful and thrilling disorientation.
Veldune began in 2019 as a creative vessel for Myers and Hufnagel, after having established a strong songwriting rapport together over their years together in Sabbath Assembly. Their desire for a fresh start after the dissolution of Sabbath Assembly sparked the exploration of musical paths neither had fully pursued previously. Initially inspired by the twangy, sultry sounds of Chris Isaak and Concrete Blonde (to name a few), Veldune expands upon that template musically while conjuring an intoxicating mixture of emotional vulnerability and fearless sensuality.

After the songs were fully written, the lineup was then completed with the addition of bassist Johnny DeBlase (also formerly of Sabbath Assembly) and drummer Jeff Eber (Dysrhythmia) in 2020. Both added their own unique touches to the material, creating subtle rhythmic and harmonic shifts of a sort not usually present in the desert noir genre. Juxtaposed with Hufnagel's forays into psychedelic, even jazz-tinted lead playing, the group's sound coalesced into a soundtrack for the end times that's alluring enough to make the listener eager for the end times. In the Fall of 2021 the quartet entered Menegroth: The Thousand Caves studio in Woodhaven, NY with producer/engineer Colin Marston to record their first full length.

"We're face to face/don't let me breathe once more/just pull me in" Myers intones in the album's opening track, "The Night Is For Dreamers" setting the tone for an experience that revels in liminal spaces and romanticizes total abandon. Cinematic widescreen images captured with sound - of spaces between passionate intensity and pure oblivion; between nowhereness and somewhereness. Each successive track beckons into another secret scene of desire and dissolution, channeling our experience of the dying modern world into a primeval rapture." - Joshua Strawn

"As it turns out, Veldune is an act you’d want to catch at The Bang Bang Bar, where sex and danger roil as thick and heady as body heat and alcohol vapors and the guitar action is as high and gleaming as the patrons. Who among us is unable to recall the captivating vision of Julee Cruise under those lights, as we felt some crucial barrier between the spirit and the flesh give way? It caused a whole generation to moan, “Oh, I’m having a Twin Peaks experience.” Listeners are liable to have that type of visceral reaction to Myers’ performance on this record, not because she sounds like Cruise but because she wields a similar mesmeric command with her voice, which has not a little White Witch sultriness to it." - Veil of Sound

"Veldune’s first recording is something that should be consumed exclusively at night, preferably after midnight ticks by and enters the early morning. That’s where these emotions are at their apex and bleed into your soul, which is the perfect time to absorb such impulses. If you’re on the open road, it’s an even better setting as it’s just you and the journey dealing with your own darkness together." - Meat Mead Metal
